You're (not) my girl
"You're (not) my girl" is the seventh AMV created by Malcolm Wilson in his spare time to improve his editing technique, released on March 16, 2015. Rather than using clips from the original anime series (1995-1996) and the film End of Evangelion (1997), this is Malcolm's first AMV to focus on the later Rebuild of Evangelion (2007-) film series, specifically the major departure between Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance (2009) and Evangelion 3.33: You Can (Not) Redo (2012). It is also his second AMV to use a song by American singer-songwriter Warren Zevon, following "Numb as a Robot", in this case "Poisonous Lookalike" from his 1995 album Mutineer. The song portrays Shinji Ikari's bewilderment at the modified reality he finds himself in, and the stark changes in the people he used to know, with a subtext meant to evoke the audience's own surprise and confusion at the shift in direction. The AMV is broadly separated into three arcs for each of Shinji's main female acquaintances: Rei Ayanami, Misato Katsuragi and Asuka Langley Shikinami, with image overlays form the previous films to evoke their old selves. Notably, this is one of very few AMVs for the third film that does not feature any sequence with Kaworu Nagisa.
