"Mitgefühl" is the first AMV created by Malcolm Wilson in his spare time to improve his editing technique, released on November 12, 2012. Using clips from his first and favourite anime series, Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995-1996), as well as the film End of Evangelion (1997), the AMV explores the character of Asuka Langley Soryu juxtaposed to the song "Sympathy" from the second album by Canadian punk band Billy Talent. The AMV demonstrates her angered veneer projecting herself as independent and self-commanding, despite her underlying crippling insecurities and self-doubt.

"Mitgefühl" is a German word selected from Google Translate that is usually translated as 'compassion', chosen over the direct "sympathie" because to someone who only knows English it just looks like a misspelling of sympathy (just as NERV in the series looks like a misspelling of nerve). As well, "sympathie" is also a French word, and thus does not point as directly to Asuka's German origin. The direct inspiration for the AMV derived from the similarity to the opening line about a "slap in the face" and the elevator scene in episode 22 of Evangelion.
